Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Then, in 1992 she was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell covered a range of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively with the President Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
